Philippines Mission Trip 2017

30th December 2016 - 22nd January 2017

Why go?

As God’s saved people, we are called to “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), and our church’s mission statement involves “showing Christ to the world”.
This includes making disciples in Mittagong, but the global church is much bigger than that. That’s why we as a church support missionaries all over the world.
This trip is an opportunity for us to encourage and support our fellow brothers and sisters in the Philippines—including missionaries serving with OMF and local church leaders. It will also be an opportunity for us to see what God is doing in another country, and get a taste of cross-cultural mission.

Why the Philippines?

Our church already has connections with ministry in the Philippines, through Dina Roki and through sending teams in the past. Many people in the Philippines are in need—physically, but also spiritually. The gospel is being shared by missionaries and locals, and we are excited about supporting them for three weeks and seeing God at work.

Meet the team

What we will be doing

We will be running the children and youth program for a OMF Missionaries Conference, from 3rd to 6th January, 2017. This will be an excellent opportunity for us to serve the missionaries and their children.
While the rest of our itinerary is yet to be finalised, the plan is to serve with the church leaders in urban poor areas of Manila and Calapan (a town on the island of Mindoro). This may include prayer walks, children and youth ministry, assisting with livelihood projects and building projects, music ministry and training.

Prayer points

  • For safe travel as we catch planes, jeepneys, buses and trikes.
  • For good partnerships with missionaries and local Christians.
  • For us as we lead the children and youth program at the OMF Missionaries’ Conference—for wisdom, patience and flexibility.
  • That we can be helpful and encouraging to missionaries and local Christians in Manila and Calapan in whatever ways we end up
  • serving there.
  • That we will grow closer to God as a mission team, and in grow in using our gifts to serve God.

For more prayer points and updates from the trip, we’ll try and blog regularly throughout our time in the Philippines at this website.
