Introducing Steven Mackenzie as our new Youth Minister for 2016

Steven will commence as a new full time assistant minister in our church in February 2016.He will be primarily focusing on working with youth and young adults.

He will ordained at St Andrews Cathedral Sydney on February 6th 2016 in the same service that Marge Mills will also be ordained.

He has been married to Julie for twelve years and they have three children, Grace, (6yrs) Evangeline, (4yrs) and Zoe, (3yrs). The photo of the family was taken a couple of years ago. They are expecting another child in January 2016.

Steven is 32 years old and is in his fourth year at Moore College where he is completing a Bachelor of Divinity.

Steven first heard the good news of Jesus through a kids holiday club. He started getting involved in informal ministry as a teenager at Glenmore Park Anglican Church. This led to helping with the youth group as well as leading a young adults Bible study.

He studied Chemical engineering at the University of Sydney and then worked as an Engineer in both New South Wales and Queensland. In Queensland, Steve and Julie joined Currumbin Presbyterian Church where he was involved in many church activities. He did two years full time working for the church doing the Ministry Training scheme which included working with youth and young adults.

He then commenced four years of full time study at Moore College and during this time has been a student minister at St Andrew’s Cathedral and then at Yagoona Anglican Church for All Nations.

We need to find rental accommodation for the Mackenzie family. It would be good to find a house with a garden and having four bedrooms, one of which could be used as a study for Steven. If you know of anything suitable contact Richard Mills or one of the churchwardens. Steven will be finished his final exams by the end of November and they would like to move to the Highlands in early December so as to be established in a home well before the new baby comes which is due in mid January. Please pray that Steven will finish his studies at Moore College well and that God will use him to help develop our ministry to youth and young adults in our church.

Walk Through Bethlehem - Save the Date!

img 9127-hr-Low Res

NEWSFLASH: Roles of Jesus, Mary & Joseph already filled!
Who will YOU be in our

As an outreach to our community this Christmas we are again planning to create an interactive experience at our centre, re-living what it would have been like in Bethlehem the night Jesus was born.
This will be held from 4pm-7pm on Friday 18th, Saturday 19th December.

The aim is to use the Centre and surrounds to mock up a village complete with shepherds in fields outside, village streets with appropriate “stalls ” (potter, woodworker, food, candle-maker, dress ups, jeweller, basket-maker, spinner and weaver etc) and finally a manger scene with live baby Jesus and parents. It requires helpful church members for intense set up and pack down round the event, but as we have now run this 4 times, we have many props and the shopfronts pre-made. It also requires committed and enthusiastic workers, “actors”, people to chat to visitors over refreshments and pray-ers. Previous directors Sam, Jono and Marge Mills are going to work together, sharing this demanding role.

It is easy to invite unbelievers to “Walk through Bethlehem” - it gives people something to do in preparation for Christmas which does not cost them money; it focuses on the real meaning and beginning of Christmas (without Santa and materialism); and it is an opportunity to invite them to church services, and other church activities.

We welcome church members on board; both those who have been involved before, and new Bethlehemites! We’d also like live animals (eg camel, sheep, goats, donkey/horse, chooks, ducks etc.) There will be more information coming, and a meeting for those who want to contribute to this outreach – we’d love to have a bustling village that will intrigue and interest many in the reality of Jesus coming to earth as a baby in a manger.

If you want to know more or volunteer now, please talk to Jono, Sam or Marge. And if you’ve read this far, we’ll reveal to you that Scarlett, Georgia and Andrew have accepted the roles of Jesus, Mary & Joseph!
